Maligne Lake Under the Rain, Jasper Alberta

I always wanted to do the cruse on Maligne Lake, but no chance it was a rainy day and I decided that I will do some hiking instead, not getting to far away from the lodge, that way I can run to take cover if the rain get heavy, and it did.

Maligne Lake is just 50k from Jasper Township, but the weather in the mountain can change inside 10k, and even if it was a beautiful day in town, it was a different story at the lake. That ride will take you about 1h, as the speed limit run between 40 and 60K.

If you decided to do the cruse, by your ticket at the lake instead of going with a tour, that way you can decided when to embark, and if the weather is good enough, it's cheaper too, tour are from $109 to $139 depending if they feed you or not and if they are stopping on the way up, if you purchase your cruse at the lake it's about $64, and they have cruse departing almost every 15 min. Don't forget if you drive you can stop to take beautiful landscape shots, and take your time to get to the lake, there is a lot to see on that road trip, you can even make a day out of it.

Even if it was rainy I took 5 shots, -1.5, -.3/4, 0, +3/4, +1.5 , rainy not always means low dynamic range, I had rain and sun at the same time. I process the shots in Photomatix my favorite HDR software, every time I used Photomatix I have to process the result in Photoshop, to change the color to what I remembered, and adjust the contrast etc..., I also used Blake Rudis color zone to get the exact result.

It took me about 15 min. to process this shot to the exact result I was looking for:)))

Medecine Lake, Jasper Alberta, using the Blake Color Zone System

I am experimenting with 5 shots hdr, process on Photomatix, and finished in Photoshop using the Color zone system,

I will do some more examples and let you know how the process work, Blake Rudis developed an amazing workflow for HDR, just need to learn a bit more how to use it,

Family Matter "new location new view"

Today June 30 we gave our keys to our Condo new owner, it has been a crazy few months, and we are not over yet, still have to sell the car, we got an offer and a pick up date, but still till it's not gone it's not over.

We are trying to make sense of our new life, living with friends till our departure for Mendoza Argentina. 

I had no time to write or even review the picture I took from my last visit to family in Montreal and Vancouver, but it should be done before the end of July.

Last Thursday coming back from cleaning and packing completely exhausted, I sat on my friend deck to relax when a big storm was forming in front of my eyes, even tired I couldn't resist I had to get my camera and get the shot, I love the view from their condo, the farm land of Okotoks:)

The Wood

One of my favorite restaurant bar in Canmore is the Wood, we have been going there for a beer, the past 20 years, it’s the best for food, drinks and view.

I went early June of this year, few weeks back with one of my friend, and this time I went for the dessert menu, my selection was,

 It was unreal, amazing, delicious, divine!!!

Film Noir Nostalgia Series, Grain Elevators Mossleigh Alberta

Mossleigh is a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada within Vulcan County. It is located on Highway 24, approximately 63 kilometres (39 mi) southeast of Calgary.

A farm family in the Mossleigh area of Southern Alberta is doing all it can to keep their local grain elevators towering over the prairies.

Eric Donovan and his cousin purchased two of the three aging structures when the original owner had no more use for them. Now they're being restored to working condition.

 

2010, 3 elevators were still standing, Canon 5D Markii, Canon 24-105 at 105mm, f7, 1/320sec, ISO200

 The elevators were built in 1930, and were in very bad shape when I visited them in 2010, as you can see on my photographs, 2 are still standing today, I am hoping to go back this spring to see if they were restored, I hope so, the grain elevators are part of our history and should be preserved. The original prairie grain elevators are becoming fewer and further between - especially rows of them.
