Lensbaby for Street Photography

 Double Glass Optic 50m, f4, 1/4000sec ISO 200

Lensbaby and street photography, not an easy task but great tool to separate your subject from his surroundings.  I was in Palermo Viejo a neighborhood of Buenos Aires in Argentina, beautiful country, and an amazing city, that morning I decided to do street photography bringing only my camera and one lens my Lensbaby Composer and the double glass optic. The way this optic works like most of the Lensbaby optics, you have to manually add your aperture, small little disc that have a variety of size and shape.  One hint for starter, it is way easier to use f5.6 and up aperture to start an learn you way down to  f1.2 that will save you a great amount of frustration, my favorite aperture using this optic for street photography and portrait is f4.

Double Glass 50m, f4, 1/1250 sec ISO 200 the morning news!
Back to Palermo, that day I decided to go for f4, wandering in the street close to the church I saw that homeless woman, in reality at that moment I regretted not having my Canon 24-105 lens "my favorite street lens", it means not only to be creative but to get closer to my subject, the double glass optic is only 50m. I gave the woman money and began shooting, no tripod, manual focus, at f4.  I learned 3 valuable lessons that day, never go out without my 24-105, start using Lensbaby optic more often and always bring a tripod.
The result was very interesting, now on I always have Lensbaby with me, it's a very creative tool that doesn't take a lot of space. For better resolution and more of Argentina images visit my site at

Mendoza Week 18

I wander around to relax and shot street photography this week, I took some shots at a street entertainers working in a major intersection, and a soap bubble maker at Plaza Independencia.
Wondering around in Mendoza it’s one of my favorite thing to do, the sun is always out, this is the sunniest city I ever lived in.

I doesn’t feel like Christmas is coming, but some store sells Christmas Trees and decorations, I asked around what was the Argentine way, apparently it’s really simple, family gathering around an asado, fruit salad, helado and sandwiches, not too much decoration, only biblical ones.
In Mendoza and I guess in Argentina they don't put their decoration out months in advance like we do in North America, they wait till the last few days before Christmas.

No snow for Christmas!

Helado is a great way to celebrate everything, I really enjoy trying deferent place, a lot of them are artisanal. What I am looking for is not as much as the creamy taste but the real taste of fruit or chocolate. I stopped by one of the biggest “Ferruccio Soppelsa” this week to try their dark chocolate and cherry helado, it was very good this one will go on my list.

The best ice cream

Sharing great moment with friends,

I also went to the mountain I will have a post about it in January when my post on Mendoza will resume,
Happy holidays to all,

Love

Mendoza week 12

We went to our printing guy this week to look at our prints, fantastic work, we will get them Monday pm, cannot wait to put them on the walls!

I also had my second photography meet up, it was on street photography you can see in the following images that it was a perfect day for it. I used my Canon 5D and my 24-105 for all the shots, cranked the aperture between f10 and f16, and ISO between 1600 and 3200, to get at least a shutter speed of 1/80sec.

Out on the street of Mendoza we meet that artist, on the side of one of the Graffiti wall,

Graffiti wall, Zoom in Zoom out and Digital Painting

Flower on the corner, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza,
Early Saturday morning, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza, f11, 1/125sec at ISO3200, the high ISO bring grain, in that photo grain add nostalgia! Using the line to add shapes.

Saturday morning, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza,

Mural Artist, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza, broking the rules and add tension in putting the subject on the edge of the frame.

Saturday morning breakfast, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza,

Saturday morning Cell phone photo, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza,

Colorful artist, Paseo Peatonal Sarmento Mendoza, using the post to add a diagonal to anchor the subject

Mendoza Week 11

Plaza Chile, art work using Topaz Impression

Monday and Tuesday was like always "shopping".

Wednesday we had our second meeting with Daniel Serio, he will be printing our work, he is a real pro, only uses the best paper, we will start with 13 pieces, we should get all of them by the end of next week.

Thursday I cooked the diner for Halloween, I wanted to make sure I can sit and relax with my friends, I did a beef stew, using round I wanted a lean cut of meat. I went to one of the best butcher a bit more expensive, about $11.00 per kilo, the price varied between $9.00 and $11.00.

Friday I did my shopping for the week end got my wine from my regular supplier, 3 bottles of 2011 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and 3 bottles of 2011 Grand Reserve Malbec, about $20.00 for all!

After what I decided to take some touristy pictures of 3 of the core Plazas “Plaza Independencia, Plaza Chile and Plaza San Martin”, Mendoza core design consist of 5 plazas, in a star pattern, a big one in the middle Plaza Independencia and 4 smalls two to the north Plaza Chile and Plaza San Martin and two to the South Plaza Italia and Plaza Espania.
The weather was a bit cooler that morning about 18C in the shade, I mention the shade because in Mendoza we don’t speak about humidex, the climate is too dry for that, instead they have the sun index, and the difference from shade and the sunny area is surprising on Friday morning it was18C, and 26C with sun index!!!
I picked Plaza Chile, Plaza Independencia and Plaza San Martin because they are my favorites and closer to my place.
