Family Matter, From Montreal to Vancouver

Leaving Montreal was very difficult, not sure when we will be back!

Every time we are passing by Montreal Airport we stop at Moe Deli and Bar for a smoked meat sandwich, a long-standing MontrĂ©al tradition,  but Moe location Gate 2 was way too far from our departure door at Gate 52, and this time we didn’t get any help for my handicap husband, the rule change, to get help, you have to pass security at the last minute, and Moe and other great resto are the other side, no choice we had to pass security and get to the resto without help, took us about 40 min to get to our gate, lucky enough, close by was the “U Bar at Gate 53” great place and the food amazing, for now on we will try to stop to U Bar more often depending on our departure door.

U Bar, Urban Style, great place and amazing food, got a pizza

We got to Vancouver late on June 19, our son and his wife Sandra picked us up at the airport, to bring us to their new place in North Vancouver.

Great view from our kids balcony in North Van
I love their new apart, stunning view from the balcony and great location, North Vancouver is becoming my favorite place in Canada, if we come back from Argentina it may become home!
Passing time with our kids, it’s always the best, it was way too short, next time we hope to meet in Mendoza.
I took many photos of my son and Sandra, in the post processing I decided to add a bit of drama and old style, using Nick Analog FX Pro… all the photos were done using Canon 5D Markiii, and Canon 24-105

Sandra is my favorite model, she is beautiful inside out,
Beautiful Sandra

We enjoy every minute in North Van, we found a beautiful patio, a great place to relax, The Sailor Hagar's Brew Pub, great service too, we meet great guys, that gave us their seat, that doesn't happen often, but how nice it is when it does, because of them we got the best seat on the patio and the most comfortable chair for my husband.

Sandra and I, enjoying our time together

My husband Marc sitting on a comfortable chair, thanks to the guys in the background.

Marc was very happy to be behind the bar

Marc was an happy guy, thanks to the staff at the The Sailor Hagar's Brew Pub

Multiple Exposure Vancouver Night View

From my son balcony in North Vancouver, this is a multiple exposure done with my Canon 5D Markiii,Canon 24-105 at 105mm.

Setting;
Multiple exposure = On: Func/Ctrl
Multi-expo ctrl = Average

The first shot I took was the city skyline and the bay, a lot easier to add the bridge on top,  the camera was on a tripod f16, 30sec, ISO 200
I only did 2 exposures because it was a very busy subject to start with, with all the light from the buildings, and the bridge.

In post processing I used the Color Zone System from Blake Rudis, adding warm to the scene.

How to shot a firework from a window

I had the opportunity to shot a small firework, from my bedroom window in Okotoks, Canada Day July first, distance between 2 and 3km.

Before the event, I placed my Canon 5D Markiii, Canon 100-400 on my big tripod, making sure it was secure. I checked my remote timer and did some testing.

Because I was far away and indoor I couldn’t hear the bursts launching, normally you fired at the same time, but hey I had to try it.

My setting were f14, 8sec, ISO100, lens on manual focus and ring on in infinity,

the reason I choose these setting is because the intensity of a firework in Okotoks is not very strong, I will say medium intensity, for really low I will probably start at f11, and high f22, between 8 and 30 sec. depending how interesting the burst are, a small city firework as the one in Okotoks, 8 sec. shutter speed is more than enough.
Also for better result try shooting on a portrait frame.

Doing it in door was so relaxing, I hope to have an opportunity to shoot a top intensity firework from indoor, with a perfect view!!!

Maligne Lake Under the Rain, Jasper Alberta

I always wanted to do the cruse on Maligne Lake, but no chance it was a rainy day and I decided that I will do some hiking instead, not getting to far away from the lodge, that way I can run to take cover if the rain get heavy, and it did.

Maligne Lake is just 50k from Jasper Township, but the weather in the mountain can change inside 10k, and even if it was a beautiful day in town, it was a different story at the lake. That ride will take you about 1h, as the speed limit run between 40 and 60K.

If you decided to do the cruse, by your ticket at the lake instead of going with a tour, that way you can decided when to embark, and if the weather is good enough, it's cheaper too, tour are from $109 to $139 depending if they feed you or not and if they are stopping on the way up, if you purchase your cruse at the lake it's about $64, and they have cruse departing almost every 15 min. Don't forget if you drive you can stop to take beautiful landscape shots, and take your time to get to the lake, there is a lot to see on that road trip, you can even make a day out of it.

Even if it was rainy I took 5 shots, -1.5, -.3/4, 0, +3/4, +1.5 , rainy not always means low dynamic range, I had rain and sun at the same time. I process the shots in Photomatix my favorite HDR software, every time I used Photomatix I have to process the result in Photoshop, to change the color to what I remembered, and adjust the contrast etc..., I also used Blake Rudis color zone to get the exact result.

It took me about 15 min. to process this shot to the exact result I was looking for:)))

Beautiful Rainy Day, Canon 5D Markiii, on a tripod, Canon 24-105 at 32mm, f22 my mid point shot at 1/2 sec. ISO 200

Between Banff and Jasper, Color Zone, to Black and White

I took the shot from my car, not the best situation as my windshield was in such a bad shape, cracks, bugs, dirt etc..., a lot of the shots were only good for trash or souvenir, but this one was editable, I used the color zone system from Blake Rudis, and changed it to black and white, I am very happy with the result.

Multiplicity Selfy

I decided to have fun on top of Whistlers Mountain an elevation of 2277 meters (7472 feet).

I will write few posts on Jasper in the next few weeks, it's an amazing destination!

How to make this kind of shot, pretty easy, the equipment DSLR, I used my Canon 5D Markiii, and a 24-105 lens at 28mm, f1/16, 1/100sec. ISO 200, focus on about 10 to 12' camera on a tripod, manual focusing, used daylight for white balance, it has to be the same for all the shots, not too much of an issue if you shoot raw, like I always do.

After have fun, put the camera on timer, get 10 seconds to run around, the trick is to get a lot of space to make sure you are not putting your subject in this case myself too close as you will need to use Photoshop to mix the layers.

The first one I did in my living room, the shot on my FB and website page was a bit more difficult as the space was restrain that's why I took only 3 shots, this time I had a lot more space and took 4 shots, next time I will try 5 shots.
s you made on one will be add to the others, open images, and layers them on top of each others, using hide all layer mask on all except for the base one, reveal only the subject.
If you have any questions please let me know,

All the space I needed, and it was so much fun, an amazing place:)
Number one, not a lot of space, only 3 shots
